Townhouse Home Furnishings

Making its break-out appearance from a small garage in 2002, one could definitely say Townhouse Home Furnishings had humble beginnings. With an employee base of only 5 workers, Jeremy Lafayette and his fledgling company set out to make a name for itself amongst the furniture powerhouses well-known in North Mississippi.

Townhouse Furnishings has come a long way; in seven short years, the Smithville, Mississippi , company has expanded from the small garage space to three buildings worth of manufacturing space totaling 170,000 square feet. Its employee base has risen at an astounding rate, up to 120 permanent employees and an additional 45 during increased seasonal demand. Even with uncertain economic times, sales volume has increased every year since the company’s founding; 2009 sales are up almost 11 percent over total sales through the third quarter from 2008.

Mississippi is well known for its hard working citizens and, therefore, attracts large industrial and manufacturing companies to the state. It was this vital resource and a carefully thought out manufacturing plan that has helped to make Townhouse Home Furnishings a success. Its manufacturing flow is the one of the most efficient in the business, according to the Mississippi State University’s Franklin Furniture Institute.

Townhouse also helps the domestic workforce and economy. The entire manufacturing process is initiated and completed in Mississippi by Mississippi workers. Rather than sending the cut and sew process overseas to cheaper distributors, Townhouse accommodates its entire cut and sew operation in a 45,000 square foot facility which once served as a garment factory. This in-house production allows for a quick change of production priorities based on immediate demand within just a few hours. Even with such meticulous strides to make quality furniture that is comfortable, beautiful, and durable, Townhouse furniture is still affordable with prices comparable to other stationary furniture manufacturers.

Townhouse Furnishings is also a large supporter of the local community, not only in keeping manufacturing local and supporting the local work force, but also through community sponsorships such as a little league baseball team. It was recognized in 2007 by the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce as the Business of the Year for its work in the local community and the extraordinary success it had experienced in only five years of production.
