PERFECT PACK SWEET POTATOES OF HOUSTON, MISSISSIPPI
Houston-based Perfect Pack Sweet Potato Company packs and delivers sweet potatoes from Vardaman, Miss. – the Sweet Potato Capital of the World - to brokers in Mississippi, Louisiana and North Carolina.
The company has been in business since 1982, when they began delivering potatoes to individual stores and chain stores. Truly a family company, Perfect Pack has been run by no less than five generations of the Moore family. Russell Moore Farms, the growing operation maintained by Russell Moore, maintains 950 acres of crop themselves, and another 1,000 acres are managed by independent farmers. Russell’s son, Chad, runs the Perfect Pack packing operation.
Perfect Pack’s potatoes are sized, washed, put into pallets and wrapped in order to deliver a high-quality product to nearby and far-flung locations. The Houston facility, located on County Road 40, has a capacity of more than 400,000 bushels.
The packing company’s goal is to handle the potatoes as little as possible to prevent bruising. It has a monitored, climate-controlled building to protect the freshness of the potatoes.
“We do our best to provide a top-quality sweet potato,” the company’s web site states. “The treatment of a sweet potato before it is packed in a box is a very important part of a quality potato. Our sweet potatoes are handled with care until they leave our facility. They are washed, hand-sorted, and packed with care for our customers.” More information is available at http://www.perfectpacksweetpotatoes.com/index.htm.
