DeSoto Family Theatre

The DeSoto Family Theatre (DFT) seeks to provide high quality entertainment appropriate for the entire family while offering opportunities for participation and education in the art of theatre for DeSoto County and the surrounding community.  DFT is dedicated to creating an artistic process that strives to enrich the lives of individuals, families and the community by creating a working and performing environment that is positive, uplifting and wholesome.
DFT is a non-profit community theatre organization dedicated to providing high quality family-oriented theatre arts opportunities to DeSoto and surrounding counties.  These opportunities include but are not limited to attending or participating in one of our productions and summer camps.
DFT was originally founded as DeSoto Youth Theatre in 2000 to provide area youth with the opportunity to pursue theatre arts at the local level.  We changed our name to DeSoto Family Theatre to better reflect that our productions are designed to be appropriate for the entire family.
DFT has produced award winning musicals like Beauty & the Beast, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with over 70 cast members including children, parents and grandparents, and Les Miserables School Edition performed entirely by youth under the age of 19, as well as intense dramas such as The Miracle Worker and The Diary of Anne Frank.  Each year, DFT’s shows are seen by eight to nine thousand theatre patrons, and five to six thousand school children, many of whom have never experienced live theatre.  DFT conducts summer theatre camps for children and youth, structured to develop appreciation and talent for theatre arts, team work and presentation skills.  Even though all children may not pursue theatre arts as a career, we strongly believe the confidence gained and skills learned will impact them for the rest of their lives.
DeSoto Family Theatre gratefully acknowledges the City of Southaven, the Mississippi Arts Commission, and all of our local sponsors for their financial support. State of the art sound and lighting equipment, and building improvements have been provided in part by a Building for the Arts grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission.
Coming up on the DFT stage is Miracle on 34th Street December 3 – 12, and The Sound of Music February 18 – 27.  All DFT shows are performed at the DeSoto Civic Center Theater at I-55 and Church Road in Southaven, an intimate, handicapped accessible theater with a convenient parking area next to the facility.  To order tickets from the box office, call 662-470-2131.  For more information or to order season tickets, go to or call 662-280-6546.
