The Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office has seen a tremendous increase in the number of fraudulent business entities being formed through our office. The most common complaint we receive is that an individual’s personal address and other information is being used for a newly formed entity they know nothing about.

In the 2026 Legislative Session, the Secretary of State’s Office championed the Mississippi Business Filing Fraud Prevention Act. With the passage of the act, there is now an administrative process for dissolving businesses which have been confirmed fraudulent. This is a significant tool to combat fraudulent filings and protect Mississippians.

If there has been a fraudulent business filing using your personal information without your permission, please complete the Declaration of Wrongful Business Filing Form. The form must be completed in its entirety and must be signed by the complainant and notarized. The complainant shall certify under the penalties of perjury that the statements therein are true and correct to the best of their knowledge.
