Each congressional district shall be entitled to one (1) representative, who shall have attained the age of twenty-five (25) years, and been seven (7) years a citizen of the United States, and who shall, when elected, be an inhabitant of the state. Miss. Code Ann. §23-15-1035.
Political Party Candidates submit a Statement of Intent and a qualifying fee as set forth in the Candidate Qualifying Guide to the appropriate executive party.
Independent Candidates file a Statement of Intent, petition containing signatures of not less than 200 qualified electors of the district and a $500 qualifying fee to the Secretary of State’s Office.
Special Election: Candidates qualifying to run as an independent candidate for House of Representatives in a special election must file a qualifying statement of intent and a petition with the Secretary of State containing signatures of not less than 1,000 qualified electors of the congressional district. The petition shall be filed by 5:00 pm not less than fifty (50) days before the date of the election. There shall be attached to each petition, at the time of filing with the Secretary of State, a certificate from the appropriate registrar or registrars showing the number of qualified electors appearing upon each petition which the registrar shall furnish to the petitioner upon request.
