August 8 Primary Election Day

JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi's Primary Election Day is one week away. The August 8 ballot features statewide, state district, county, and county district offices.


To familiarize yourself with the upcoming election, visit the My Election Day portal to receive election information tailored to your specific address.


Polls for the August 8 Primary Election will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. Any voter in line at 7:00 p.m. is legally entitled to cast a ballot. 

Secretary of State's Office Receives IACA Merit Award

JACKSON, Miss – The Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office was recently awarded the prestigious International Association of Commercial Administrators (IACA) Merit Award for the newly established Welcome to Business (WTB) Webinar Program.


The IACA Merit Awards are given each year to jurisdictions who have successfully implemented an innovative change in their home jurisdictions. A select panel of experts carefully reviews and scores each submission in the areas of Effectiveness, Originality, Significance and Transferability, and Lessons Learned.

Campaign Finance Late-Filer Report

JACKSON, Miss – Pursuant to Mississippi Code Section 23-15-817, the Secretary of State’s Office is required to publish a list of all candidates for Statewide or Legislative Office who failed to file a campaign disclosure report by the dates specified in Section 23-15-807(b).


Individuals who failed to timely file their campaign finance report by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, and still have not filed their report to date include:

SECRETARY OF STATE’S OFFICE BUILDINGS TEMPORARILY CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC

Jackson, Miss. – In an effort to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office will be closed to the general public until further notice, effective at 2 p.m. on March 17, 2020. Our office will continue providing first class service to all Mississippians by responding to emails, answering calls, and guiding them through our online resources.

I was extremely disappointed to indirectly hear about the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ plan to open the Bonnet Carre Spillway. Though eventually given the opportunity to ask a question through a window dressing meeting the morning of April 2, 2020, the decision to make the recommendation without input from Mississippi had basically already been made. During the meeting, I asked the Corps the following question:

PRIMARY ELECTION DAY: LATE MORNING UPDATE

Jackson, Miss.— The Secretary of State’s Office received reports of a handful of minor issues in Hinds, Madison and Harrison Counties regarding poll workers and/or managers not arriving to polling locations on time. Thankfully, the respective Circuit Clerks and/or party officials were able to quickly remedy the various tardy situations.

PRIMARY ELECTION DAY: EARLY AFTERNOON UPDATE

Jackson, Miss.— Based on the telephone calls to The Secretary of State’s Office, voter turnout for the 2020 Presidential Primary Elections seem to be steady. The call volume into the Secretary of State’s Election Hotline has been below average, with most calls relating to polling location and voter registration questions.

MORE THAN 20,000 ABSENTEE BALLOTS REQUESTED FOR 2020 PRIMARY ELECTION

Jackson, Miss.— As of 7:30 a.m. today, 24,295 Mississippians requested absentee ballots for the March 10 Primary Election, and 21,392 absentee ballots have been returned to Circuit Clerks’ Offices.

“We are excited to see the increase in absentee voting and hope those numbers equate to a large turnout at the polls today,” said Secretary Michael Watson. “We’re encouraging all Mississippians to exercise their right to vote today.”
