2025 Election Qualifying Period Begins

JACKSON, Miss. – Today, July 22, 2025, is the first day for candidates to file petitions and/or qualifying statements for the offices of County School Board, Municipal Separate School District Trustee, Special Municipal Separate School District Trustee or Consolidated/Consolidated Line School District Trustee.

2025 Special Primary Election Day Reminders

JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi's 2025 Special Primary Election Day on Tuesday, August 5, is less than one week away.

Polls for the Special Primary Election will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. Any voter in line at 7:00 p.m. is legally entitled to cast a ballot.

Campaign Finance Late Filer

JACKSON, Miss. – Pursuant to Mississippi Code Section 23-15-817, the Secretary of State’s Office is required to publish a list of all candidates for Statewide or Legislative Office who failed to file a campaign disclosure report by the dates specified in Section 23-15-807(b).

Mississippi Selected to Host 2025 NASS Summer Conference

JACKSON, Miss — Secretary of State Michael Watson is proud to announce Mississippi has been selected as the host site for the 2025 National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) Summer Conference. 


The Conference will be held in Biloxi bringing secretaries of state and staff from across the nation to the Mississippi Gulf Coast for the four-day event.

Voter Registration Mailers from Third Parties Alert

The Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office has been alerted the Voter Participation Center, a private organization, plans to send voter registration mailers to Mississippi residents. The Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office and county Circuit Clerks have received numerous calls about mailers from the Voter Participation Center in past years.

2025 Election Qualifying Deadline

JACKSON, Miss. – The qualifying deadline for candidates for the offices of County School Board, Municipal Separate School District Trustee, Special Municipal Separate School District Trustee or Consolidated/Consolidated Line School District Trustee is Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.

All candidates for County Special Elections must also submit qualifying paperwork by Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.

Secretary Michael Watson Hosts 2025-2026 SOS Student Ambassador Fall Summit

JACKSON, Miss. – Secretary of State Michael Watson hosted the 2025-2026 Secretary of State (SOS) Student Ambassadors for their Fall Summit on Thursday. The event, hosted at the Two Mississippi Museums in Jackson, marked the first of the in-person summits the Student Ambassadors will attend throughout the school year.
