OFFICIAL STATEMENT: Lobbyist Registration Clarification

In response to inaccurate statements circulating on social media regarding lobbyist registration, it is imperative Mississippians are provided with accurate information.

Miss. Code Ann. Section 5-8-3 defines a “Lobbyist” as:

(i) An individual who is employed and receives payments, or who contracts for economic consideration, including reimbursement for reasonable travel and living expenses, for the purpose of lobbying;

2026 Election Qualifying Period Begins

JACKSON, Miss.  – Today, January 2, 2026, is the first day for candidates to file petitions and/or qualifying statements for the offices of Court of Appeals, Chancery Court Judge, Circuit Court Judge, County Court Judge, and Mississippi Levee Commission.

Secretary Michael Watson Warns of Increasing Uses of Bitcoin ATM Scams

JACKSON, Miss. – Secretary of State Michael Watson urges Mississippians to be aware of the increasing scams involving Bitcoin ATM machines.

"Our office has continued to see an uptick in securities-related scams, and we encourage Mississippians to exercise caution when investing hard-earned dollars. With the ever-changing landscape of technology, including cryptocurrency and Bitcoin, we must remain vigilant," said Secretary Michael Watson.

CAMPAIGN FINANCE LATE-FILER LIST (2020 ANNUAL CAMPAIGN FINANCE REPORT)

JACKSON – Pursuant to Mississippi Code Section 23-15-817, the Secretary of State’s Office is required to publish a list of all candidates for the Statewide or Legislative Office who failed to file a campaign disclosure report by the dates specified in Section 23-15-807(b).

Individuals who failed to timely file their campaign finance report by 5 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2021, and still have not filed their report to date include:
