Secretary Watson Presents $11.4 Million Tidelands Trust Funds Check to MDMR

BILOXI, Miss – On behalf of the Gulf Coast legislative delegation, Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson presented the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) with a check for $11,455,247, representing the Tidelands Trust Funds amounts collected during Fiscal Year 2023 for use during Fiscal Year 2024.

Over the life of the program, the Secretary of State's Office has transferred a total of $198,945,227 to the Mississippi Gulf Coast through the Tidelands Trust Funds.

Campaign Finance Late-Filer Report

JACKSON, Miss – Pursuant to Mississippi Code Section 23-15-817, the Secretary of State’s Office is required to publish a list of all candidates for Statewide or Legislative Office who failed to file a campaign disclosure report by the dates specified in Section 23-15-807(b).

Individuals who failed to timely file their campaign finance report by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, and still have not filed their report to date include:

2023 General Election Absentee Report (Oct. 16)

JACKSON, Miss – As of Monday, October 16, 2023, the Statewide Election Management System (SEMS) reported a total of 15,856 absentee ballots requested, 14,969 absentee ballots sent, and 9,328 absentee ballots received in the state of Mississippi for the 2023 General Election. 

2023 General Election Absentee Report (Oct. 23)

JACKSON, Miss – As of Monday, October 23, 2023, the Statewide Election Management System (SEMS) reported a total of 23,321 absentee ballots requested, 22,697 absentee ballots sent, and 15,858 absentee ballots received in the state of Mississippi for the 2023 General Election. 

Secretary Michael Watson, Attorney General Lynn Fitch, CFTC, 29 State Regulators Reach Settlement with Safeguard Metals in $68 Million Fraud Targeting Elderly Adults

JACKSON, Miss – Secretary of State Michael Watson and Attorney General Fitch announced today, in partnership with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and 29 other state regulators, the parties have reached a settlement with precious metals dealer Safeguard Metals, LLC and Jeffrey Ikahn in a federal lawsuit filed in February 2022, in the United States District Court for the Central District of California. The lawsuit alleged Safeguard and Ikahn engaged in a $68 million fraudulent scheme which targeted the elderly.

Saturday In-Person Absentee Voting Begins

JACKSON — Circuit clerk offices will be open from 8:00 a.m. to noon for in-person absentee voting this Saturday, October 28.

The last day to vote in-person absentee is Saturday, November 4. Circuit clerk offices will be open from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

All mail-in absentee ballots must be postmarked by November 7 and received by county circuit clerk offices by November 15 in order to count.

Pre-Election Report Campaign Finance Deadline

JACKSON, Miss – As a reminder, pre-election campaign finance reports for the General Election are due by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2023.

Pre-Election Reports are mandatory if a candidate is opposed. If running unopposed, Pre-Election Reports are not required. For candidates who are unopposed in the General Election, the Secretary of State's Office does encourage filing a termination report if candidates have no further expenditures or contributions.

JACKSON, Miss – As of Monday, October 30, 2023, the Statewide Election Management System (SEMS) reported a total of 35,946 absentee ballots requested, 35,267 absentee ballots sent, and 28,379 absentee ballots received in the state of Mississippi for the 2023 General Election. 

General Election Day - November 7

JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi's General Election Day is less than a week away. The November 7 ballot features statewide, state district, county, and county district offices.

To familiarize yourself with the upcoming election, visit the My Election Day portal to receive election information tailored to your specific address.

Polls for the General Election will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. Any voter in line at 7:00 p.m. is legally entitled to cast a ballot.
