Secretary Michael Watson Appeals to Mississippi Congressional Delegation to Repeal New Small Business Regulation

In a joint letter with Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen, Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson submitted an official request to the Mississippi and Alabama congressional delegations to repeal the Corporate Transparency Act which increases the regulatory burden on small businesses nationwide.


The letter outlines the errors within the policy in addition to the lack of cooperation and effective implementation from the Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).

Secretary Watson Announces 2024-2025 SOS Student Ambassadors

JACKSON, Miss — After a competitive application process, Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson is proud to announce the 2024-2025 class of Secretary of State (SOS) Student Ambassadors.

The Ambassador program equips high school seniors with the knowledge and resources to engage as leaders within their schools and communities. This year's group of Ambassadors consists of 70 students from 42 schools in 31 counties across all four congressional districts.

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Secretary of State's Office has received numerous questions regarding a press release issued by the Kennedy campaign on June 17, 2024, citing We The People party has ballot access in Mississippi.


Due to several false or misleading statements, our office has provided the following clarification:

New Nonprofit Annual Report Filing Requirement

JACKSON, Miss. – Pursuant to House Bill (HB) 1344 from the 2024 Legislative Session and signed by the Governor, effective July 1, 2024, all nonprofit organizations will now be required to file an annual report with the Secretary of State’s Office. These reports will be available starting January 1, 2025, and will be due on or before May 15th of each calendar year.


There is no cost associated with this report. Failure to file this report will result in administrative dissolution.

Secretary Michael Watson to Speak at U.S. Chamber of Commerce Anti-Human Trafficking Forum

JACKSON, Miss. –The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has invited Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson to speak at the Chamber's annual anti-human trafficking forum, "Bolstering Efforts to Address Human Trafficking," in Washington, D.C. on Monday, July 29.


The forum will focus on business stakeholder engagement and practices to prevent human and labor trafficking. Secretary Watson will discuss Mississippi Business Against Trafficking (MBAT) and recent updates in the "Businesses Initiatives Against Trafficking" session.
