Update on Republican Primary Runoff Elections

JACKSON — Voting is underway for Mississippi's Republican Primary Runoff Elections in Districts 2, 3, and 4. Call volume to the Secretary of State's Elections Hotline is steady, with most calls relating to polling place locations and ballot confusion at the St. Philip's Episcopal Church voting precinct in Congressional District 2.

Earlier today, our office issued a voter registration alert regarding a calendar selection error in the Statewide Election Management System (SEMS). Transparency is a primary pillar of election integrity, which is why I believe it is essential to provide Mississippi voters with further context as to how that error occurred.

SECRETARY OF STATE JOINS CFTC TO CHARGE PRECIOUS METALS DEALERS IN $185 MILLION SCHEME TARGETING ELDERLY INVESTORS

JACKSON – The Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office, represented by the Mississippi Attorney General's Office, joined the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and 29 other states in filing a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas alleging Metals.com and Barrick Capital Inc. defendants solicited $185 million from 1,600 seniors and other vulnerable investors nationwide, including over $350,000 in Mississippi, by touting precious metals at grossly inflated prices that were not disclosed. 

SEPTEMBER 22ND SPECIAL ELECTIONS UPDATE - EARLY AFTERNOON UPDATE

JACKSON – Today, September 22, 2020, is a special Election Day for voters in Choctaw, Clay, Copiah, Hinds, Lawrence, Lincoln, Lowndes, Montgomery, Oktibbeha, Walthall, and Webster Counties. Polls will be open until 7 p.m., and any voter in line at 7 p.m. is entitled to cast a ballot. The September 22nd Special Election ballot includes races for Senate District 15, Senate District 39, House District 37 and House District 66.

HUMPHREYS AND SUNFLOWER COUNTIES TAX-FORFEITED LAND AUCTIONS

JACKSON - Tomorrow marks the beginning of two online auctions of tax-forfeited properties in Humphreys and Sunflower Counties. Mississippians have the opportunity to bid on 129 parcels in Humphreys County valued at an estimated $759,000, and 146 parcels in Sunflower County valued at an estimated $468,953

PUBLIC HEARINGS SCHEDULED FOR MEDICAL MARIJUANA INITIATIVE

JACKSON – The Secretary of State's Office will host a series of public hearings regarding Initiative Measure No. 65(medical marijuana) in each of the old five Congressional districts, as required by State law. Initiative Measure No. 65 and the legislative alternative, Alternative Measure No. 65A, will be on the 2020 General Election ballot. 

LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST COMPANY ACCUSED IN ONGOING BUSINESS SCAM

JACKSON – After investigating data and concerns brought forth by our office, the Mississippi Attorney General's Office (AG) has filed a lawsuit against Centurion Filing Services, LLC, for alleged deceptive solicitations targeting new Mississippi businesses. This action follows countless complaints to our Business Services Division and a cease-and-desist letter from the AG's Office, to which the company has not responded.
