JACKSON — Secretary Michael Watson encourages Mississippians to research candidates and their platforms ahead of Tuesday's primary and general elections. The June 7th Primary Election Day ballot features candidates running for U.S. House of Representatives. Voters in Bolivar, Humphreys, Sharkey, and Washington Counties will also have the chance to vote for candidates vying for a seat on the Board of Mississippi Levee Commissioners.
JACKSON — No statewide issues were reported to our office during the June 7th primary and general elections. However, we received a handful of reports regarding precincts opening late due to miscommunication amongst election officials. Call volume to our Election Hotline remained steady throughout the day, with most calls relating to voter registration status or polling place locations. Additionally, we are pleased to report our Cybersecurity team detected no abnormal activity on our websites or the Statewide Election Management System (SEMS).
JACKSON — Secretary Michael Watson encourages Mississippi voters to prepare for several runoff elections. Certified election results show no candidate in the District 2, 3, and 4 Republican primary elections received the required number of votes to advance to the November General Election. Republican primary runoff elections will be held Tuesday, June 28th.
JACKSON — After a competitive application process, Secretary Michael Watson announces the 2022-2023 inaugural class for the Secretary of State (SOS) Student Ambassador Program. The program equips high school seniors with the knowledge and resources to engage as leaders within their schools and communities. This year's group of Ambassadors consists of 56 students from 44 schools in 28 counties across all four congressional districts.
We’ve received several complaints over the last few days regarding the conduct of a party election official, possibly calling into question the impartial application of election laws. Although our office has no enforcement authority, we’ve addressed the issue and want to remind all party officials of the importance of remaining impartial throughout the election process if playing a role in the conduction of the election.
JACKSON – The Secretary of State's Office will host the first of five public hearings regarding Initiative Measure No. 65 (medical marijuana) in Oxford on Wednesday, September 30, 2020. The event will be held at The Gertrude Castellow Ford Center for the Performing Arts located at 351 University Ave, Oxford, MS, 38655.
JACKSON — Less than 24 hours remain until Mississippians head to the polls for Republican Primary Runoff Election Day. Eligible voters in Congressional Districts 2, 3, and 4 will cast a ballot for the candidate they wish to see advance to the November 8th General Election.
