UPDATE ON JUNE 23 ELECTIONS

Jackson, Miss. – Based on the telephone calls to The Secretary of State’s Office, voter turnout for the Republican primary runoff election in Congressional District 2 and the special election in House District 88 seems to be low. The call volume into the Secretary of State’s Election Hotline has been well below average, with most calls relating to polling location changes. These are the temporary polling location changes that were reported to our office:

The Secretary of State's Office continues to receive reports regarding the online behavior of a handful of Election Commissioners spread across the state. While we do not agree with the derogatory comments we've seen, our office has no legal authority to reprimand or remove these individuals from office. Election Commissioners are independently elected officials, and they are answerable to the voters of their district.

Qualifying Deadline for 2023 Election

JACKSON, Miss – Candidates should be reminded of the upcoming qualifying deadline of February 1, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. 


The 2023 Election includes statewide offices, state district offices, county offices, and county district offices. 

Secretary Watson Presents John Lewis Youth Leadership Award

JACKSON, Miss – Secretary of State Michael Watson presented co-recipients Bobby L. Hudson III (Harrison County) and Maisie Brown (Hinds County) the National Association of Secretaries of State’s (NASS) John Lewis Youth Leadership Award during a special presentation at the Mississippi Capitol on Tuesday.

2023-2024 Student Ambassador Program Application Now Available

JACKSON, Miss – Secretary of State Michael Watson and the Mississippi Secretary of State's Office is seeking high school seniors with a passion for leadership and state government to apply for the agency's 2023-2024 Student Ambassador Program. The program aims to increase voter education and registration among youth and encourages students to engage in Mississippi civics.

Campaign Finance Late-Filer Report

JACKSON, Miss – Pursuant to Mississippi Code Section 23-15-817, the Secretary of State’s Office is required to publish a list of all candidates for the Statewide or Legislative Office who failed to file a campaign disclosure report by the dates specified in Section 23-15-807(b).


Individuals who failed to timely file their campaign finance report by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, and still have not filed their report to date include:

Mississippi Joins Multistate Securities Settlement with Nexo Capital, Inc.

JACKSON, Miss – Secretary of State Michael Watson has announced the office's Securities Division joined 52 other jurisdictions and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in a $45 million settlement with Nexo Capital Inc. (Nexo). The settlement relates to the offering and selling of unregistered securities in digital asset investments.

Secretary Watson Completes 82-County Tour

JACKSON, Miss – Secretary of State Michael Watson announced the completion of the 82-County Tour this morning at the Jackson County Courthouse.


Prior to the announcement, Secretary Watson visited with Jackson County election officials inside the courthouse. The Jackson County visit was stop 82 of 82 on the tour.

Candidate Qualifying Clarification

JACKSON, Miss – The Mississippi Secretary of State's Office has received numerous questions as to the procedures for qualifying candidates for the 2023 Election. To ensure Mississippians receive accurate information, a few candidate qualifying clarifications are noted below.
