Candidate Qualifying Clarification

JACKSON, Miss – The Mississippi Secretary of State's Office has received numerous questions as to the procedures for qualifying candidates for the 2023 Election. To ensure Mississippians receive accurate information, a few candidate qualifying clarifications are noted below.

Secretary Watson Announces MBAT Summit at Jackson State University

JACKSON, Miss – Secretary of State Michael Watson is pleased to announce our next Mississippi Businesses Against Trafficking (MBAT) Summit to be held on April 4, 2023, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on the campus of Jackson State University. 

In collaboration with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI), the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH), and the Jackson State University (JSU) Police Department, the upcoming summit will include multiple sessions featuring industry experts.

Secretary Watson Hosts MBAT Summit on JSU Campus

JACKSON, Miss – Secretary of State Michael Watson hosted a Mississippi Businesses Against Trafficking (MBAT) Summit Tuesday afternoon on the Jackson State University (JSU) campus. Business, non-profit, and state agency representatives and JSU students gathered to learn more about human trafficking in Mississippi and across the country.


Today's MBAT Summit was held in collaboration with JSU (thanks to Chief Herman Horton, Director of Public Safety at JSU), the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI), and the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH).

Mississippi Joins Multistate Securities Settlement with Robinhood Financial LLC

Jackson, Miss – Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson announced the agency's Securities Division has joined a multi-state settlement with Robinhood Financial LLC, which will pay up to $10.2 million in penalties for operational and technical failures.


"Through diligent work, our Securities Division continues to protect the hard-earned money of Mississippi investors. Financial service firms will be held responsible for lack of responsibility and customer care when operating in our state," said Secretary Michael Watson.

Secretary Watson Announces 2023-2024 SOS Student Ambassadors

JACKSON, Miss — After a competitive application process, Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson is proud to announce the 2023-2024 class of Secretary of State (SOS) Student Ambassadors.


The Ambassador program equips high school seniors with the knowledge and resources to engage as leaders within their schools and communities. This year's group of Ambassadors consists of 67 students from 46 schools in 35 counties across all four congressional districts.

SECRETARY OF STATE’S OFFICE SET TO REOPEN TO THE PUBLIC MONDAY

Jackson, Miss. – The Secretary of State’s Office has been temporarily closed to the public to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. During this time, our team has continued to provide first-class service to all Mississippians by responding to emails, answering phone calls, and guiding customers through our online resources.

Campaign Finance Reports Deadline

JACKSON, Miss – As a reminder, Periodic Campaign Finance Reports are due in the appropriate office for 2023 candidates and political committees supporting or opposing 2023 candidates by 5:00 p.m. on May 10, 2023.


Mississippi law (MS Code Ann. § 23-15-807(b)(ii) and 23-15-807(e)) requires all candidates for elective office (excluding candidates for federal office) to file campaign finance disclosure reports.

Statement on Secretary of State's Website Outage

JACKSON, Miss – On May 11, 2023, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Secretary of State’s Office’s technology services experienced a sudden outage of its primary web server. The outage affected web applications that run on the sos.ms.gov website, causing them to become inaccessible and website viewers to receive various error messages when attempting to access them. Upon research, it was determined the cause of the crash began affecting SOS web applications prior to Thursday’s crash.

ELECTION DAY REMINDERS FOR REPUBLICAN PRIMARY RUNOFF & HD 88 SPECIAL ELECTION

Jackson, Miss. – The Republican primary runoff election for the 2nd Congressional District and the special election for House District 88 will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Any voter in line at 7 p.m. is entitled to cast a ballot.
